Lisbon

A city of tiled streets, sweeping views, and timeless charm

Lisbon is a city of light and layers—set on seven hills overlooking the Tagus River, shaped by centuries of exploration, resilience, and reinvention. As the capital of Portugal, Lisbon rose to prominence during the Age of Discovery, when its sailors ventured across oceans and brought back influences that still echo in its architecture, cuisine, and culture. From Moorish alleys to grand plazas, tiled facades to pastel de nata cafés, Lisbon invites you to wander and wonder.

Exploring Lisbon on foot reveals the character of its neighborhoods, each with its own rhythm and charm. I’ve curated three individual self guided walks through the city’s historic districts to help you experience Lisbon the way I did: curiously, leisurely, and with an eye for the unexpected.

We will follow the path of the iconic Tram 28, guiding usthrough winding hills and historic quarters—with one walk one heading east from Martim Moniz through Alfama and Graça, and another west toward Estrela and Campo de Ourique. Another walk explores the riverfront grandeur of Belém, home to Portugal’s Age of Discovery landmarks and serene gardens. The nexttraces a central route from Praça do Comércio up to Avenida da Liberdade, looping back through elegant shopping streets to Lisbon’s City Hall. Each walk is designed to be easy to navigate and full of moments that invite you to pause, look around, and feel the rhythm of the city.
